The BioBlitz Awards

BioBlitz Trophy
The BioBlitz Trophy

For the Island BioBlitz event, there will be six category of award to reflect the varied nature of island wildlife and biological recording. The different awards are:

The Most Species Award

This is the main category and will be awarded to the island that records the most species of wildlife.

The Species Richness Award

This will be awarded to the island that records the most species based on its area. This ensures that smaller islands are not at a disadvantage.

The Most Productive Team Award

This will reward the team that achieves the highest average number of records recorded by the team members, to recognise their recording endeavours.

The Most Marine Species Award

This award will go to the island that records the most marine species. This is to recognise the unique marine biodiversity of our off-shore islands.

The Conservation Species Award

Islands provide specialised habitats for wildlife, so this award will go to the island that records the most protected and threatened species.

The Booby Biodiversity Award

This is a special award to recognise daft or novel ideas, heroic failure,  too much partying, etc. The Data Centre reserves the right to make multiple such awards in the event that teams misbehave or things go horribly wrong!

The National Biodiversity Data Centre is an Initiative of the Heritage Council and is operated under a service level agreement by Compass Informatics. The data centre is funded by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and the Heritage Council.
