By 16:00hrs the picture has changed significantly. Bere Island has made a huge effort and is now within two species of Inis Mór, with tallies of 683 and 685 respectively. Cape Clear is a bit behind, but we hear that an internet connectivity problem may have impeded their progress over the last couple of hours. Tory Island is still totting up the species and has reached 458 species; this is quite a remarkable recording effort for such a small island. Clare Island is lagging behind, but we hear that they are all out in the field, recording. Hunger will bring them back to base camp, so the Clare Island tally is likely to change before the evening is out.
