A review of the data already contained in the National Biodiversity Database, and available to view on Biodiversity Maps, gives a good insight into the current state of knowledge on the biodiversity of the five islands. Hardly surprisingly given the two Clare Island Surveys, the most species has been recorded on Clare Island, where data is available on the distribution of 918 species. Distribution data on 598 is mapped for Cape Clear followed by 580 for Inis Mór. Bere Island and Tory Island have been less well studied, and there is data on only 303 and 136 species respectively. The knowledge and data on the species that are found on the five islands will be dramatically differently by the end of Island BioBlitz. The predication is that perhaps the three top islands will have recorded in excess of 1,000 species by the end of Island BioBlitz.
